Municipality of Perušić - Kosinj Valley

The picturesque Kosinj Valley was once the centre of Croatian literacy which is why it has a significant place in Croatian culture and history. Soon after the Gutenberg press was invented, the Frankopans founded the first Croatian printing house in the old settlement of Ribnik, near today’s Kosinjski Bakovac, which was also the first printing house in this part of Europe. In 1483, Missale Romanum Glagolitice was printed, written in Croatian language using the Glagolitic script and it is the first printed Croatian book. Since the place of printing is not written in the book, many researchers suggest that it happened in Kosinj.
