City of Gospić - Chapel of St. Ivan Nepomuk

The Chapel of St. Ivan Nepomuk is located in the center of Gospić. It was built by Czech soldiers in 1749, on the place where today is the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is named after the Czech saint Ivan Nepomuk. At that time, it was the only church in the town of Gospić and it became too small for so many believers. For this reason, a church of St. Ivan Nepomuk was demolished and a new bigger one was built at the same place, while the Chapel of St. Ivan Nepomuk was built one hundred meters away from the old one in 1883. In the chapel, there is a memorial plaque to the victims of Senj.

City of Gospić - The Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was originally a parish church, built between 1781 and 1783 in Baroque Classicism. It was elevated to the rank and dignity of the cathedral church on May 25, 2000, with the founding of the Gospić-Senj diocese.
During the Croatian War of Independence, the church was targeted, and on September 15, 1991, it was set on fire. On that occasion, the roof and the cap of the bell tower with the interior burned, and the bells were melted, while the interior of the Cathedral was damaged by arson. Reconstruction began during the Croatian war of independence and before Christmas 1992 it was covered. The renovation was largely completed by the feast of St. Mary Magdalene in 1999.

Municipality of Perušić - Church of Saint Vitus

The inscription in the church of Saint Vitus in Kosinj Bakovac is an important part of the Kosinj Glagolitic heritage. It dates from 1517 and can be found above the entrance door, where the coat of arms of Anž Frankopan and the Glagolitic text are turned upside down. There are different theories about the stone, e.g. that it was moved from the nearby Frankopan town of Ribnik in the Kosinj Valley, which some historians relate to the location of the first Glagolitic printing house in Croatia.
