Frankopan city Novigrad; Old town Novigrad

Old town Novigrad was allegedly built in 1193 but exact year is not actually known. However, it is known that in the 15th century at the latest it came into the possession of the Frankopan princes of Krk, and remained in their possession until their downfall in the "Zrinsko-frankopanska conspiracy" in 1671. Until today, many owners have been changed.

As well as the owners, the architecture of the building has also been changed throughout the history. From a defensive burg to a lavish baroque castle, but its defensive role, which it had due to its location, has never been in absence. Its ground plan is an elongated pentagon of unequal sides with a pointed tip to the northeast. There are towers in all the peaks, four approximately semicircular and smaller in size, while the fifth on the steepest cliff is the largest. The main and the only entrance to the city is on the south wall with a folding entrance bridge, and later a walled ramp.

In 1999, the reconstruction of the southern left tower began, it was completely reconstructed and a lookout was built on it. The intention is to preserve at least the existing condition and restore the most valuable parts old town.

The Old town of Novigrad na Dobri is one of the most important cultural heritage buildings in the municipality of Netretić and Karlovac County, and in the future it will certainly become a tourist pearl of this part of continental Croatia.

The City Star Karlovac

The Star is the oldest and central part of the city of Karlovac, the Karlovac Fortress, which was built in the 16th century as a Renaissance fortification system with a characteristic six-pointed shape.
This star-shaped fortress area of geometrically regular and proportional streets and squares is bordered by six five-sided bastions connected by earthen ramparts, which are followed on the outside by a fortress hornbeam and a sloping outer earthen embankment that allows good defensive control in front of the fortress. Such a system of construction was an expression of the highest fortification ideas of the time, and corresponded to the then war strategy in which short-range artillery dominated.
Central space of The Star is the ban Jelačić’s Square where are The Catholic church of the Trinity Church and the Orthodox church of St. Nicholas which hold numerous historic and spiritual valuables of the town.

The Old Town of Slunj

The Old Town of Slunj was built for the original residential purpose of the princes of Krk, as a polygonal, hexagonal building, within which there was
palace and probably auxiliary rooms. It dates from around the 1322 when the Hungarian and Croatian king Charles Robert donated the Drežnik parish with the town of Slunj to Friedrich III Frankopan. There is also a document from 1390 that says that Ivan, Duke of Krk, gave Slunj for to the Duke Paul of Zrinski for rent in the amount of 4000 ducats. In 1449, Slunj belonged to the Duke Dujam of Frankopan, the ancestor of the famous Frankopan Slunjski lineage. The lineage ceased to exist out in 1572 with the death of Franjo Frankopan Slunjski, a hero of wars with the Ottoman conquerors and the famous Croatian ban, while the Town of Slunj got into the hands of the king. The Old Town of Slunj has been connected with the Slunj settlement, on the left bank of Slunjčica, within which there was also the Franciscan monastery. Currently, plans are being prepared for the restoration of architectural and other material cultural and historical heritage with the aim of partially putting the restored areas in the function of nature protection and cross-sectoral cooperation on programs for the restoration and use of the Old Town of Slunj and nearby Napoleon's grain magazine.
Today's walls of the Old Town of Slunj are owned by the City of Slunj.
