Canale scolmatore

The Corno is a torrent with peculiar characteristics that extends for about 40 km, starting from the Municipality of Treppo Grande and flowing into the Tagliamento at Codroipo. The stretch of the route that crossed the Rive d’Arcano area has always been affected by flooding phenomena following heavy rains that caused considerable inconvenience to the community. It was decided to implement changes to the route to avoid this problem but all the projects proposed from 1930 did not develop until 1985, when the Region appointed a working group to study a feasibility project. Delegate to carry out the works was the Alto Friuli Hydraulic Reclamation Consortium which launched a tender for the drilling of a tunnel from San Mauro to Aonedis which had to convey the excess water collected in a basin directly in the Tagliamento. The work was contracted out to the Vidoni business association of Udine and Valsesia of Turin. Work began in 1993 and ended in 1999, and came into operation in 2004.

Centrale idroelettrica

The Ledra canal that crosses the territory of the municipality of Rive d’Arcano has five centuries of history. The first excavation project dates back to 1487 when the Venetian government proposed the excavation of a navigable canal that would favor trade and agriculture, starting from Gemona and flowing into the sea. Due to various vicissitudes including the conflict with the Turks, the project was immediately shelved. Subsequently the idea with some changes to the route, was resumed in the second half of the nineteenth century by the engineer Giovanni Battista Locatelli who found its realization in February 1978 and was completed in 1889. In 1908 the works of the electrical workshop of owned by Cotonificio Udinese, built in the area where the Petoc and the Corno meet. The intention of the property is to found a large factory on site and thus create jobs. Due to some unclear problems, the idea will soon vanish and with it the possibility for the municipality to reserve the right to supply public lighting and water supply to the center of the village.

Mulini

The milling activity has a great importance in the economy of the ancient rural communities. In a list dated 1446, there are 6 mills belonging to the Arcano family on the Corno river. These mills are moved by the waters carried by the river by means of roste and generally work with three wheels; in the period of drought with one and sometimes remain stationary due to lack of water. The careful management of the water and the roste of the horn is one of the first reasons for disagreement with the community of San Daniele accused several times of not respecting the borders and feudal rights of the Arcano. Over the years the mills are renovated and rebuilt. There were 8 mills on the Corno river: the Gonano mill at the San Daniele-Arcano Superiore road, the Ricci mill, the Rovere mill, the Poana mill, the Nicli mill, the Della Vedova mill, the Bazzara mill.
