Municipality of Perušić - Kosinj Bridge

Connecting Gornji and Donji Kosinj, Kosinj Bridge is a 70-meter-long stone bridge that crosses the Lika. It was designed in the 19th century by Milivoj Frković and built according to the old Croatian bridge-building technique. The bridge is specific because of its openings in the arches whose function is to relieve the impact of the waves on the bridge, which is important as there are often floods in the area. In 2009, the bridge was acknowledged for its construction uniqueness by the European Council of Civil Engineers.

Municipality of Perušić - Kosinj Valley

The picturesque Kosinj Valley was once the centre of Croatian literacy which is why it has a significant place in Croatian culture and history. Soon after the Gutenberg press was invented, the Frankopans founded the first Croatian printing house in the old settlement of Ribnik, near today’s Kosinjski Bakovac, which was also the first printing house in this part of Europe. In 1483, Missale Romanum Glagolitice was printed, written in Croatian language using the Glagolitic script and it is the first printed Croatian book. Since the place of printing is not written in the book, many researchers suggest that it happened in Kosinj.
Kosinj - Croatia/ Lika-Senj County
Tourist experience: The Kosinj Valley is usually visited because of its stunning natural sights, for example, those of the Lika River or Lake Kruščica, where one can go fishing, swimming, canoeing, etc. or hike in the nearby mountainous areas. However, the valley has lots to offer to those passionate about cultural heritage and tell a story of a once very significant cultural centre in Croatia.

Scalinate (Staircases)

Taken into account the way in which the various hamlets of the municipality are located, in many cases the different areas are reachable through long and panoramic staicases. For example there are staircases starting from Borgo S. Antonio and reaching the Parish Church, or ging to Palazzo Calice Valesio, Castoia and Villamezzo. Staircases could be an important asset in terms of tourist development and thus it would be wise to maintain and valorize them.

Tourist experience: Staircases could become low-altitude itineraries, connecting the hamlets of the municipality and allowing for the development of circuits, also for older people.

The church was built on a little pre-exesting church that was constructed between 1880 and 1883 thanks to a bequest of Giovanni Mecchia and also the work of various Rive d’Arcano’s citizens who contributed to the construction. From the previous building two wooden statues from the altar of San Giuseppe were conserved, the frescoes of the central nave and the chore were executed in the 1925 by Ugo Brollo. In the 1932 was completed the monumental staircase.
